  • Harley mufflers for a V8???

Here's an off-the-wall question for you. Some of you locals know that until recently I had a 66 Corvair. Lotta fun to drive, even with just the stock 140HP flat 6. On a couple of Corvair forums, I'd read of successful use of Harley mufflers, and decided to try that. Loved it - new dealer take-offs are plentiful and cheap. They looked and sounded great, were not as loud as you'd expect. But that was on a 180cid six. Well, I've moved on since then, now driving a 66 Mustang with a 302, and it's a little too quiet to suit me. Flowmasters are too loud, so considering Borla or Magnaflow. But the desire for something different got me to thinking about the Harleys again. Two questions:
    1. I'm not familiar with Harleys. What is the biggest diameter of OEM Harley pipes? (My Mustang has 2 1/4.)
    2. Do you know of anyone who's tried Harley mufflers on a small V8? How'd it work out?

Not getting any response at all here, but on another forum I was told Harley muffler id's do not exceed 1 3/4". Not big enough. So now I lean toward Borla - their ProXS line. Any opinions?

I like the dynomax turbo mufflers, if you want to meet up to hear them on a 302 let me know

Thx 51, but I have ordered a pair of Borlas from Summit. Shud be here Monday. Also trying the band-type clamps for the first time, will be interested to see how well they seal.

Yeah I would steer clear of motorcycle parts on v-8's. If it was something that would work, it would have been done a long time ago.
