  • Plasma cutters

Looking at plasma cutters, and found one on Amazon that is their #1 best seller: a brand called Lotos, Model LTP5000D. $434. Yeah, I know, sounds like too good to be true for a plasma cutter, must be junk, right? But their #1 seller, with 341 reviews averaging 4.5 stars. Clean cuts 1/2", severance cuts to 3/4". This will not see a lot of use by us - only the occasional project.

Any Floaters have any experience with this brand?

Never heard of it but keep us informed if you take the plunge one thing to consider is the consumables such as tips and electrodes like where to get them and how much they cost

I've been welding for 30 years and I've never heard of Lotos either. WB is right on the consumables. That just seems awful cheap for a plasma cutter. We call Lampton and see if they have any used or demo's for sale. If you didnt live so far from me you could use mine anytime. If you're willing to make the drive you can use it anytime you want

Duck said that last nite he googled this brand and model, saw a ton of youtube videos on it, and nearly every one said it worked great. Not intended for everyday use like a shop that does this stuff for a living, but for the hobbyist, it does just fine. He also found out that Home Depot sells this one, so we may go take a looksee.
Thanks for the tip about the consumables. I've learned that lesson with a totally OT product: printer ink cartridges. Canon printer cost $70. The B/W and color cartridges? About $50. (Found some recycled ones on eBay that work fine for half that.) Anyway, you're right - the consumables are a big factor.

I did order this thing. It is cheap. Might not last long, but for what little money it was and how many great reviews it had, it was worth the shot.

Will post pics and let you know how it turns out.

We bought a Hypertherm 30 a few years ago. We use it a lot more than we thought we would it is the go to cutting tool in our shop.
