  • Yep I done did a dumb thing

So I did a dumb thing this evening after my boss sent me this ad for a car hauler ramp truck thing I called the guy and asked about it and after consulting all my idiot friends (Who said that thing is awesome and it would look great with my car on it) I stepped up and said I’ll take it so it is gonna happen anyhow I’m sure this is gonna be a epic trip to get this pile home here are a couple crappy pics of it tell me what you think and stay tuned for more on this story

The ramp appears to be pretty short in the pic. Essentially just from the rear axle back. Which car are you thinking of hauling with this?

Bluedot I will haul the afx car on it i should have no problem fitting it on there the old man who built it hauled his dirt track car for many years with it so I’m not worried about the car fitting I will know more this weekend when I go check it out
67falcon I just have too many people I know that send me things like this because it’s in my wheelhouse I don’t go searching for this stuff it just seems to find me lol

I'm betting with this bunch if you happened to get tired of it or decided it was "just too much of a project", flipping it would be easy! Lol Very cool find!
Many things have come and gone to which I've been a host, but of the things I have no more I miss my mind the most... https://duckuscrapuspond.com/forum/c...ilies/cool.png

Ok so Friday evening my boss max and I started out on a road trip to check out this hauler in person this is all his fault you know when I talk about my dumb friends now you know who I mean lol. Anyhow we made it to Des Moines Iowa then stopped got some rest and continued on sat morning finally arrived in Britt Iowa it’s a decent little community the guy whom I have dealt with on the phone said I would see it sitting on the side of the road before I got to his shop we drove through looking like a kid standing outside the candy store window I had traffic piling up behind me as I drove through the area at what seemed 3 miles an hour we kept looking and next thing I know we were at his shop so I turned around and headed back down the road thinkin oh crap I’m too late it’s already gone even though I had already made arrangements for pickup today as we headed back we seen it in all its glory sitting right there along side the road you know with all the sunny rays reflecting off it like in a cartoon in all its glory there it was so we rolled up got out and walked around it and decided it was perfect i honestly didn’t care whether it run or not at that point I just looked at him and he said “I may have made a mistake by telling you about this because now I want it”
I called the owner and told him we were there and asked him if it was ok to go ahead and check it out he said sure and he would be there shortly so first thing was open the hood to check out the 318 engine he told me it had but max and I looked at each other and said that ain’t no 318 this one had the heavy duty 361 big block in it tires all looked good it was full of bright green coolant and engine oil was used but clean and full to the mark throttle wasn’t stuck and the brake fluid was low but still had some in it as was the hydraulic clutch reservoir we opened the door and went inside and found the interior was dirty from setting for so long but in good shape so it was settled I was gonna officially own this thing so we met the owner at his shop to get settled up and get some more info on it so after I emptied my wallet of all my savings over the last couple years it was mine all mine whoooohahahaha. Now I got all the story on it the fellow who built it was actually the fellow we dealt with uncle and he had built it and used it to haul his dirt track car to all the tracks around the “circuit” in that area all through the 80’s and 90’s then he hung up his helmet and helped a local youngin get started in the circle track racing scene in the early 2000’s until about 2004 when the lad got his own truck and trailer to pull the race car and after that it has just set other than being moved a couple times around the farm I had brought some tools a hot battery and fuel and electric pump and a few things to see about making it run so we set off to get this thing running again and by all indications this could easily happen so after getting out coveralls on and gloves and cold weather attire on cause it was cold and starting to spit some rain I filled up the brake and clutch reservoirs because this was a major deciding factor of whether it was gonna be a roadkill trip or not I went inside and stepped on the brakes and the were good then the clutch it took a bit of persuasion but come alive and that two down now to hear it run so max hooked up the battery and I installed the fuel pump and wired it up got the carb to spit some fuel and then tried to crank it but the ground cable was sparking where it met the engine so I removed the cable scraped it with my pocket knife and reinstalled it max while sitting in the seat checked all the lights and signals found them to all work all we needed to so was hear this thing fire up and it was gonna be a road trip for sure then max hit the starter and nothing it tried but wouldn’t crank I thought hmmmm the guy told me he was able to turn the engine over but hadn’t tried to start it then when I pushed on the fan it turned but not the crankshaft so I gathered some tools and crawled under the bus and removed the flywheel cover and tried turning the engine with a big ass screwdriver and at that moment all out hopes had been crushed it wasn’t gonna happen the engine was stuck I would have spent more time on it and worked on it to get it to turn over but it was cold and rain had started to get worse and we were gonna be running out of daylight soon so we packed up our stuff and locked it all up and headed into town to get some food before we hit the road home even though we didn’t get to road trip it home all was right with the world and I was not unhappy with my purchase or the fact I’m gonna have to come back with a big ass trailer to haul it home I firmly believe that with a small amount of effort it will run just not today plus I have to work on Monday and I was out of money to spend right now lol here are some better pics I took

First pix, I didn't notice it was a Mopar to haul your Mopar. Even cooler! Also, the latter pix show much more room for a car than I'd thought.
                  Ya gonna paint it? Color?

Keep us updated. Since it has the 361 "B" engine you have a lot of engine swap options if the 361 is locked up too bad.
